A huge part of the series’ success in Italy is the outstanding dubbing work. While the original English is, of course, superb, the Italian version has become legendary in its own right. The actor lent his voice to 8 seasons of the series, creating a version of the character that is still beloved today. Albertini managed to perfectly capture Columbo’s inquisitorial cunning, his false sloppiness, and the subtle irony that disarms even the most sophisticated criminals. After his death, the baton was passed to Antonio Guidi , who continued to bring the character to life with equal care and respect. Together, these two voices have made the Lieutenant an institution in Italian homes.
