
Ramadhir Singh expands his empire by eliminating threats. Upon learning that Shahid Khan plans to overthrow him and take over the mines, Ramadhir has Shahid covertly assassinated.
The narrative then rewinds to 1941. A narrator, Nasir, introduces the town of Wasseypur, a place historically dominated by the Qureshi clan. We meet (Jaideep Ahlawat), a daring Pathan villager who, to support his family, takes up the dangerous business of looting British trains. To strike fear into his victims, he impersonates the legendary and faceless dacoit, Sultana. His impersonation works flawlessly until the real Qureshi clans find out. As punishment, they banish Shahid and his family from Wasseypur.
