Established in 2012, CIROS was created to serve China's rapidly growing robotics market. The inaugural event, CIROS 2012, had a modest scale of 6,500 square meters but attracted 82 exhibitors from countries like Japan, Germany, and the USA, drawing over 20,000 professional visitors. Organized by the China Machinery Industry Federation, the China Robot Industry Alliance (CRIA), and CMEPO, it was designed as a comprehensive platform for the entire robotics ecosystem. Its significance was quickly recognized, with CRIA's then Secretary-General stating in 2013 that it was "widely regarded as the premier robotics exhibition in China".
