Contrary to the term "offline," the game is not truly "offline" in the traditional single-player sense. You are still connecting to a server; it's just that this server is one you or someone else hosts locally on your own PC or a dedicated machine. Because the server and client often run on the same machine, the game can be played without an active internet connection once the server is set up.
